September Meeting Announcement

The September meeting will be held on Thursday, September 11th from 7-9pm at the Tech Foundation in Harvard Square. The meetings are held in the 3rd floor conference room at 30 Brattle St., Harvard Square, Cambridge. To register please click here . Registration is not required but does help us plan for the meeting.

If you would like to give a presentation, please contact me: click here.  You can also post ideas for topics that you would like to see us cover in our meetings to the Meeting Agendas Forum .

The main topic will be setting up a development environment on your local Windows PC so that you can run a local copy of Joomla.  We will look at the option of installing XAMP as a "Portable App" rather than installing it into the Windows registry.  We will also do a basic installation of Joomla on the XAMP server.

XAMP is a free download that provides a complete Apache, Mysql, PHPMyadmin, PHP environment under Windows.  It is what is refereed to as a "WAMP" server, i.e., Windows, Apache, Mysql, PHP and is the equivilent of the "LAMP" enviorment that most open source software runs under.  It has up-to-date versions of all of the componenents and allows you to run and develop any applications that you might with to run on your Linux based or hosted systems so that you can develop it or just try it out and learn about it.

Installing Joomla under the XAMP server is very straight forward and we can easily install XAMP and Joomla during our meeting.  Bring your laptops and you can install it and get it running at the meeting.

Thanks,

Scott
